Mira Murati, CTO of OpenAI, resigned from her position last week to pursue personal explorations. Her departure marks a significant shift, as she was instrumental in advancing OpenAI’s capabilities and ethics discussions. The company is yet to announce her successor and Murati’s next steps remain undisclosed.

Meta Connect Event Update: Meta introduced Orion, its advanced augmented reality (AR) glasses. Orion glasses overlay digital media onto real-world views, marking a shift from traditional screens. The first consumer models are slated for 2027. Zuckerberg is counting on this product to overtake mobile phone usage by 2030.

Meta AI is going multimodal with upgrades across both products and models. You can now use voice to chat with Meta AI on Messenger, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram DMs. Choose from different voices, including celebrities like Awkwafina, John Cena, Judi Dench and Kristen Bell.

Plus, Meta AI can understand photos we share in chats. These features are powered by two new Llama 3.2 multimodal models (i.e., they can understand images).

Why should you care? Meta now has over 500 million monthly active users engaging with Meta AI. They are making frontier-level models free to use in Meta’s products and shaping the vision of how AI integrates into daily life.

Hugging Face, the AI hosting platform, surpassed 1 million AI model listings. This milestone highlights the rapid growth of AI, driven by diverse and specialized models, rather than a single all-encompassing solution.

This achievement demonstrates the increasing demand for adaptable AI solutions. Hugging Face’s focus on fine-tuning models allows organizations to create AI tailored to specific tasks, enhancing efficiency and accuracy in diverse applications across industries.

Apple has opted out of discussions to invest in OpenAI during its ongoing funding round, which could value the AI company at $150 billion. Other tech giants, including Microsoft and Nvidia, are still involved, with Microsoft planning a $1 billion investment.

Apple’s decision could signal strategic differences in AI development approaches, as OpenAI’s transition to a for-profit structure continues to reshape the AI investment landscape.

Google is set to invest $1 billion in Thailand to expand its cloud and AI infrastructure. This investment will establish new data centers in key areas of the country and is expected to generate significant economic growth, job creation, and advancements in Thailand’s digital and AI ecosystem.
